News ItemNorthants UNISON's Friday Forensic take on NCC Issue 1

This email/blog/bulletin will be a weekly round-up of news from Branch to all our members in NCC. There are two this week as I couldn't send this one until now as our national system for UNISON has been down all week. So this is w/e 16th March to be followed by this week's.

The intention is to send an email like this on a Friday afternoon and for clarification I shall use NCC as an umbrella term to cover NCC, FfW, NASS etc as I believe that 'rightsourcing' is a bad idea and that nobody should have ever been TUPEd out!

Well what a week! The Inspector published his report a day early and thankfully he recognised all the hard work that you do. We still don't know when or if Commissioners will come in nor do we know how they will operate. I have drafted a letter that I am hoping to get out to you all this week which is an open letter to the Commissioners asking them to engage with us asap and we would like you all to sign and indeed get colleagues to sign too even if they aren't in a union. So look out for that.

A big thank you to all those who came to the meeting on Friday. It was lovely to see you all. We will be holding another meeting in April but will book a bigger room. Do invite UNISON colleagues along as it was great to see you all. It was actually an honour to have Helen Black, Regional Secretary, there and that shows how seriously the whole of UNISON are taking our crisis. I have spent the last 6 weeks meeting with Regional and National Officers to learn the implications of the s114 notice and of Commissioners for all us employed by the authority. I want to be as informed and educated as possible in order to achieve the best outcomes for Staff.

I'd also like to thank all of those who attended AGM's this year. Again I understand the room at Angel wasn't big enough and that was because we usually only get a few folks there. One of your issues, I understand, is that members would like me to be more accessible. I try to get to OAS as often as I can and please, if you see me having coffee in the atrium, grab me and have a chat.

More on Friday - Penny Smith, Branch Secretary
