Friday Round up
Hello Everyone,
Nice to be back after a week in North Yorkshire.
The Secretary of State at the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG) has issued his response to the first letter received by him from the Commissioners (please see link)
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/northamptonshire-county-council-first-commissioners-report
Also, today the MHCLG has issued its consultation document on the proposed reorganisation of Local Government in Northamptonshire. (please see link)

On Wednesday Lorna & I attended our bi-monthly meeting of the Northamptonshire Combined Staff-Side Council (NCSC). This is where we meet with our UNISON branches in the Health Service along with other Health Unions to talk about the ‘Health Care Partnership’ across Northamptonshire. We held the meeting at OAS for the first time and welcomed a senior figure from NASS to explain how the partnership is working from the Employer’s side. It was lovely to hear that there is now true collaborative working between NCC & the NHS when it comes to patient care for the Over 65’s.
Kev has been busy, in the last few weeks, visiting Schools as the Schools Convenor promoting UNISON and taking Pens, Notepads etc as we recognise that members in Schools can’t get to the stalls that we hold in OAS. If you are a member in a School and would like Kev to pop by, then just contact the Branch.
Ben held a meeting for our LGBT Members on Wednesday evening. If you require any advice or information on any LGBT matter, then please call Ben in confidence on 07984 293202.
On Thursday Lorna attended the Audit Committee to hear the sorry state of our finances. The new Auditors for NCC will be Ernst & Young. Lorna will keep you all updated with news around the Budget as we receive it.
We have organised a UNISON stall in the atrium at One Angel Square on Thursday 6th December, between 11.30am – 1.30pm (next week). The theme is Welfare and we will be promoting UNISON’s charity called “There For You” and the support provided to members, e.g. winter fuel grant and discounted breaks for low-paid members. Elnora Latchman, our branch’s Welfare Officer, is running the stall. We will also be recruiting new members as per usual. Rosie Bartram from the regional office will also be assisting us with the stall.
Next Friday will be my last Round-up but Kev & Lorna will be taking over the task and so they will still hit your inbox each week.
Have a great weekend! - Penny
