Sadly, Penny Smith our Branch Secretary will be retiring on 7th December.

Penny has worked tirelessly for members and has led the branch brilliantly through some very challenging times and will be sorely missed.

As we donít appoint new officers until the AGMís in March following the nomination process and elections during January and February, we have needed to make some interim arrangements to cover the branch leadership and this was ratified at Branch Committee.

Interim Branch Secretary- Kev Standishday
Interim Staff Side Secretary-Andy Langford
Assistant Branch Secretary-Wilky
Assistant Branch Secretary - Lorna Smith

A newsletter with a description of roles available and nominations forms will be posted to you very soon.

We really need as many stewards as possible so please think about whether you could take on this role.

Remember the union is only as strong as the members!

Today is UNISON Stars in our Schools day when we recognise the enormous contribution support staff make to schools. I have visited some schools around the county to drop off badges and pens for staff but have been unable to reach all schools but will be trying to drop off items over the coming weeks.
In my view you are Stars in your Schools every day not just today!

A message from County Councillor Anjona Roy our Labour Link Officer:-
"The next UNISON County Branch Labour Link meeting will be taking place on 20th December at 16.00 hrs at Darnell Way. This is a meeting for any Affiliated Political fund contributors."

The meeting will discuss local and Labour issues and will agree delegates to the Regional APF Forum on Saturday 23rd of February in Nottingham.

A message from Ben King our LGBT Officer:-
"Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) members will be meeting at 5.30pm on Wednesday 28th November. The venue is the UNISON branch office, 6 Darnell Way, Moulton Park, Northampton, NN3 6RW. It is an opportunity to meet like-minded people to discuss employment issues and have your say on the running of union. Luisa Jepson from Northamptonshire Police will be joining us as a guest speaker to discuss hate crime. For more information about the Self Organised Group, please contact Ben King by emailing or phone/text 07984 293202."

Lorna attended the full Council meeting this week where there was a lively debate by the elected members on whether to vote to ask for more money from Government. The Conservative group voted against asking the government for more money and the motion was not carried. There was some great speeches and we would really like to see the return of the Webcam so that staff and members of the public can also see whatís happening.

Have a great weekend
Lorna Smith and Kev Standishday
