Happy New Year to you all!

I hope you all had a good and enjoyable Xmas break and a big thank you to all those who worked over this time to keep services running.

As itís been Christmas it has been relatively quiet here but I have been out and represented a couple of members with issues.

Just before Christmas we met with a national Unison officer, Gill Archer who is the lead for Social Work and have arranged to meet the Childrenís Commissioner with her later this month to discuss how we can assist NCC in recruiting and more importantly retaining qualified social workers.
Prior to this we would like to gather the views of social workers so have arranged 2 consultation events.

14th January 12.30 till 14.00 at Angel Square
16th January 12.30 till 14.00 at William Knibb

We would like to hear from as many as possible across all areas of social work so please attend if you can and bring your colleagues too.

Also part of the budget includes a proposal to significantly reduce funding to Prospects (previously Connexions) which will in effect mean the end of this advisory and support service for 16-18 year olds. As this county has no youth service and very little support for young people therefore it is vital we keep Prospects. Below is a link to the consultation please take the time to comment and try to prevent the loss of this service before it ends on 23rd January.

2019 is the year Unison have designated as Young Workers Year. We need to support and nurture our young people as they are the future.

In solidarity
